Taúrë Sindelo Meaning of Name: Gray Elf of the Forest Description: Taúrë Sindelo is one of five Captains of the Army of Mirkwood and the only female elf among them Hair: Deep brown Eyes: Ice Blue Height: 5’ 10½” Age: It is known that Taúrë is at least 2,500 years of age. Arms: Like most elves, Taúrë is highly skilled with a bow. She also carries two long knives for close combat and a small, but deadly dagger at her side. She has a short sword as well, but does not always carry it with her. Abilities: Possesses the Natural Elven Attributes. It has also been said that she can still speak with the trees although many have fallen into a deep slumber, never to be woken again. She can develop simple yet effective battlefield maneuvers given time, but prefers to execute Tauraquen’s brilliant strategies. She is very skilled with weapons of all types. Her longbow is the most frequently used, but her long twin knives are her weapons of choice. Dress: Taúrë is almost always clad in the dark tones of the Mirkwood elves, these colors allowing them to blend in with the forest in which they reside. The most commonly worn colors are dark green and brown, but Taúrë is most often seen in dark grays and greens. This is mostly because she prefers to roam the forest at night and so she is able to blend in with the shadows. They are garments that are of high quality, but not extremely elaborate (for an elf) because of Taúrë’s arduous duties. Her attire usually consists of a light tunic worn under a leather jerkin and a belt, pants and boots. She wears leather bracers on her wrists and has a light, but strong cloak for nocturnal activity. At her neck she wears the brooch symbolizing that she is a Captain of Mirkwood. Miscellaneous: When she is not scouting, patrolling, taking counsel, or carrying out other orders from her commander, the Prince, Taúrë can be found wandering throughout her forest home. On a few occasions, some of her kin may be found with her, but Taúrë prefers to be alone. She is also more active at night than during the day and enjoys climbing to the very tops of the trees to look upon the night sky. It is said that she is the most cautious of the five Captains, but is always prepared to back her apprehensions. A resigned mediator, whenever a dispute arises between her colleagues, she will settle the matter and the general mood with a smile and a few quiet words. She is always ready to give advice when it is needed, but never dispenses it unsolicited. Having lost her parents at a young age, Taúrë matured very quickly. Tauraquen had been a very good friend of her father’s and so he took it upon himself to see that she was never in want. The two soon grew very close and Taúrë was as a daughter to Tauraquen and he as a father to her. Taúrë has a great love for all living things, above all trees, especially the great oaks. More often than not, she can be found high up in the branches of one, resting or thinking of ages past. One of her most cherished companions is her horse, Èristel. His silent gait and his dark gray coat suit her nocturnal habits. Halquendë Meaning of Name: Tall Elf Description: Halquendë is a Warrior in the Army of Mirkwood and under the command of Captain Taúrë Sindelo. He is also a messenger for the Prince. Hair: Very dark brown (Almost black) Eyes: Pale Green Height: 6’ 2” Age: Approximately 3,000 years old. Arms: Carries a longbow, a long, slightly curved sword and a short knife. Abilities: Possesses the Natural Elven Attributes. He is one of the swiftest elves to be found in Mirkwood, which is one of the reasons he was chosen to be the Prince’s main messenger. Dress: His home being Mirkwood Forest, he is always clad in dark colors such as green, brown and gray. His attire is that of most other forest dwelling elves with the exception that he will often be wearing a light, yet sturdy pair of soft shoes instead of boots. Miscellaneous: Halquendë is somewhat reserved in his manner and devotes most of his time to carrying out the orders of his commanders. His sentiments are rather pessimistic, more often than not, so he will rarely voice his feelings on any given matter unless they are called for. He has few friends, not because he is unlikable, but because he chooses to be alone. Though, he can sometimes be found walking through the trees with his Captain, speaking at great lengths about what has passed and what is yet to come. Tauraquen Meaning of Name: Mighty One Description: Tauraquen is another one of the five Captains of the Army of Mirkwood. He is the eldest of the five and a brilliant military strategist. Hair: Black Eyes: Deep Green Height: 6’ 1” Age: He is known to be over 3,500 years old. Arms: Carries a longbow, a broad sword and a short knife on his back. Abilities: Possesses the Natural Elven Attributes. Military strategizing comes quickly and easily to Tauraquen and his plans are almost always successful. His impressive skills with a sword cannot be matched on the field of battle. Dress: His dress is similar to that of the other Captains, tunic, pants, belt, leather jerkin, boots, bracers and a long black cloak. He is usually clad in tones either of dark grey or very dark blue. He also wears the brooch symbolizing his rank in the Army of Mirkwood and is quite often seen wearing thick, layered armor on his shoulders during battle. Miscellaneous: Very tall and powerfully built, Tauraquen is quite outspoken for an elf and has a generally positive outlook. He loves to laugh and is always ready to point out the bright side of a bad situation, but when it comes to the field of battle, there is no one more serious. He takes great pride in his renowned battle maneuvers, but prefers to see others carry them out. He is strongly devoted to his land and his people, especially the King, who considers him a trusted advisor in military matters, among other things. Though unspoken, it is generally a rule amongst the other four Captains that Tauraquen has the final say in any given matter and that he would take the role as leader should the need arise. He is closest to Taúrë and is like a father to her. Lintál Meaning of Name: Swift Feet Description: Lintál is one of the five Captains of the Army of Mirkwood. He is perhaps the most silent of the five. Hair: Fair Eyes: Crystal Blue Height: 6’ 1” Age: Almost 3,000 years of age. Arms: He carries a longbow, a broadsword and two small daggers. Abilities: Possesses the Natural Elven Attributes. With a good bow in his hands and a quiver full of arrows on his back, Lintál is as deadly as a score of Rohirrim. Using the trees and shadows, he strikes hard and fast and can pick off an army of orcs without ever being seen. His lightning quick movements are sometimes undetectable, even by his elven kin. Often, he will be called Linquárë (swift hands) instead of Lintál (swift feet). Dress: Clad in the standard wear of Mirkwood elves, Lintál can usually be found in various shades of gray. Miscellaneous: The most silent of Mirkwood’s five Captains, Lintál is known as the listener. He doesn’t always have much to say, but is quite willing to hear everyone else out. When he does choose to speak, his soft yet commanding voice demands silence and respect from all. He prefers to prove his loyalty and serve his people through actions rather than through counsel and words. He is perhaps the wisest of the Captains as well and so his counsel and advice are often sought by his King, commander and colleagues. Melandúnë Meaning of Name: Love of the Evening Description: Residing in the Valley of Imladris, Melandúnë is a hand maiden and good friend of Linedhel’s. Hair: Black Eyes: Deep Blue Height: 5’ 8” Age: She is known to be at least 2,000 years of age. Arms: Retains a longbow and a short dagger, but does not wield them often. Abilities: Possesses most of the Natural Elven Attributes. Melandúnë is a fair hand at the harp, but is best at amusing her Lady Linedhel. She can almost always lift Linedhel’s spirits when she is worried or sorrowful with merely a smile and a few bright words. Dress: Melandúnë’s attire is that of a hand maiden of Imladris. Like most elves residing in that realm, she prefers to wear dark jewel tones. Her dresses are very fine, as are all elven garments, but not excessively so because of her standing. Miscellaneous: Melandúnë is never without a smile and a kind word. Though extremely faithful, she is more of a friend to her Lady Linedhel than a hand maiden. When not waiting on her Lady, Melandúnë can often be found in one of Imladris’ many gardens, composing a new song on her harp. She often comes to Linedhel with the latest news of events outside of the Valley. She has a quiet, but musical voice and when she is not talking, she sings of the beauty of great Elven Ladies from ages past. Lindaquén Meaning of Name: Fair One Description: Lindaquén dwells in Rivendell and is as a sister to the Lady Linedhel. Hair: Fair Eyes: Clear Blue Height: 5’ 9” Age: She is known to be approximately 2,000 years of age. Arms: Possesses a longbow and a short dagger, but does not carry either of them with her unless she is traveling outside of Rivendell. Abilities: Possesses most of the Natural Elven Attributes. Lindaquén has the ability to remember almost everything she’s ever read. She has great knowledge of lands she’s never been to and of the customs and histories and many different races. Dress: Lindaquén dresses as most elves dwelling in the Valley, wearing rich garments of dark, jewel-toned colors. Miscellaneous: Lindaquén was born and grew up in the fair realm of Lothlórien. Frequently did she visit the Valley of Rivendell with her parents and there met Linedhel. The two became close friends and so when, while traveling to Imladris, Lindaquén’s mother and father were slain when a band of wild wargs, Linedhel begged her friend to come and reside with her in the Valley. There has Lindaquén dwelt ever since. She has always been somewhat reserved in her manner and since the death of her parents, she has become even more withdrawn. She has never gone back to Lórien though Linedhel often urges her to return and look upon her homeland once more. One of Lindaquén’s great passions is knowledge and she’s almost never seen without a book in her hand. She’ll spend days at a time, browsing through the countless volumes in the Lord Elrond’s library. One of her wishes is to one day travel to Minas Tirith and there visit the great Hall of Records. Maiquendë Meaning of Name: Skilled Elf Description: Maiquendë is currently the most skilled healer in the entire realm of Mirkwood. Hair: Deep brown Eyes: Green Height: 6’ 2” Age: Over 3,000 years old Arms: Maiquendë possesses a short dagger which he has with him at all times and uses mostly when gathering herbs, roots, bark and other ingredients necessary for his remedies. He also retains a longbow, but does not carry it unless traveling outside the city. Abilities: Possesses the Natural Elven Attributes. Maiquendë is the most skilled healer in the entire realm of Mirkwood and few can surpass his knowledge of trees, plants and green, living things. Countless dozens has he brought back from the very brink of death, staying at their side for days and sometimes weeks at a time, never giving up on those under his care. Many of his kin know him not only as a healer of the body, but as someone to whom they can go with their thoughts and troubles. He is never too busy to simply lend an ear and with a few words of quiet advice, he can heal a grieving heart or mend a broken friendship. Dress: Maiquendë’s dress is that of most wood-elves. From his belt hang many pouches, containing herbs and remedies and he is often seen with a large satchel slung over one shoulder. In it he carries his tools and some parchments on which he keeps records and instructions for mixing medications. Miscellaneous: From all corners of Middle-earth, elves and men alike have come, seeking Maiquendë’s advice in the matters of health and many have studied under him. He never passes up an opportunity to learn something new that may help him administer to others. Maiquendë was once offered the position of the King’s personal physician, but instead gave it to a promising pupil, saying that his place was among the King’s people. Natural Elven Attributes
